Tom Holland, Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller were considered for the main role. In the end, the director chose Timothée Chalamet. Rehearsals were not needed - on the recordings of performances in which Chalamet played at school, he sufficiently demonstrated his talent. The main filming took place in Great Britain.
